Hotel Review: New Freedom Palace Bed and Breakfast.

January 23, 2016 by David James Leave a Comment

We were exploring Jamaica with our rental car and as we went through Ocho Rios, we decided to opt for cheap accommodation in the city. The first thing that we will tell you is finding this place on your own is very difficult as there aren’t any street signs. We had to ask the local police who sent a driver to guide us to the place. You can see a map to get there below.

The place is a two storey Jamaican house based in the suburbs of Ocho Rios. If you want to experience the suburban feeling of Jamaica, then this is an ideal place. It is by far one of the cheapest places to stay in Ocho Rios. Many of the other places we looked at were in excess of $200USD per night. If you are travelling as a couple or group and you want to visit this city on the cheap, then this accommodation will suit the budget traveller.

The owners are quite friendly. The little boy was cute. He was a bit shy and spoke raw Jamaican patois. The owner seemed like he would be willing to share tips to enhance your Jamaican experience.

The accommodation isn’t stellar, but it can be pleasant for the budget traveller in Jamaica. There were some issues with some lights not working, mosquitos and bugs around the place, but it is also common in Jamaica.

There are reviews that talk about the Bed and Breakfast not being served, but it wasn’t an option that we went for. We mainly wanted access to the Internet and a comfortable place to stay. In the end, we paid around $70USD to stay for the night.

If you plan to travel to Ocho Rios, this will be one of the cheapest accommodations that will be on offer in the area. Don’t expect a stellar stay, but in terms of value for money while travelling in Ocho Rios, this will be one of the better places to stay.
